    Additional Information

    Certification program

Basic first aid covered different emergency situations and injuries requiring EMS or emergency medical services. A lot of focus is placed on knowledge and skill development such as wound care and CPR/AED (cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation). AEDs are machines that supply needed shock to the heart through pads attached to the chest. These basic first aid programs last 14 – 16 hours total.

Stand-alone CPR classes are also available in three levels: A, C, and HCP, lasting four, five, and six hours respectively. Level A focuses on adult victims, level C includes adult and pediatric victims, and level HCP is catered to health care workers and professionals.

    Recertification

To pass the course, the student must have complete attendance, adequate return demonstration of first aid skills, and at least 75 percent on the written exam. After passing the class, the student is awarded a St Mark James certificate card. Wall-mount sizes are optional.

The certificates are valid for three years and can be renewed, if still valid, through recertification programs for first aid, lasting 8 hours, inclusive of CPR level C recertification.

    Private instructors

You can also book private instructors for training at home or for events such as conferences and outings. Instructors at Lethbridge First Aid have hourly rates so just give a call or send an e-mail to inquire about them.

    Did You Know?

    Angina or Chest Pain

Angina pectoris refers to chest pain that is caused by inadequate blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart, due to a blocked, bleeding, or narrowed coronary artery (they deliver blood and oxygen to the heart tissue). When the heart doesn’t get enough oxygen, the heart tissue starts to die, in turn causing the chest pain. More information about irregular heart arrhythmia here.

Anginas can be brought by about by poor eating habits and vices such as smoking. Stress can trigger the chest pain as well, because of increased blood pressure. Anginas usually go away with rest and medication such as nitroglycerin. However, if the pain continues despite rest and medication, the person may already be experiencing signs of a heart attack.
