Emergency First Aid

Emergency first aid training is the most popular basic first aid course offered through the major providers in Canada. This course focuses on the most basic first aid emergencies and comes standard with the most basic CPR level available. Over 60,000 candidates are certified in emergency first aid ever year in Canada.

The major first aid providers that offer this course are as follows:

All of the providers offer emergency first aid and CPR certification that is of identical value. The course content is over 90% similar.

Award Upon Completion:

Students that complete this course will receive a emergency first aid certificate. The certificate will come in either a wallet sized certificate or a wall mount award. Candidates can request both awards but it may come at an extra cost. Certification meets legislative standards and is valid for 3 years regardless from which provider it comes from. Certificate is nationally accredited and valid throughout Canada. The certificate is not valid outside of Canada or internationally.

CPR Options and Certification:

Emergency first aid courses are always partnered with CPR training. The standard option of CPR training is CPR “A” which teaches candidates basic CPR techniques to rescue adults and child victims. CPR “B” is a obsolete level. CPR “C” is the highest option of CPR training that can be partnered with a emergency first aid course. In this CPR level candidates

AED Certification:

Automated external defibrillator training comes standard with emergency first aid courses. The combination of CPR and defibrillation is a extremely effective treatment for victims of cardiac arrest. Course Length:

The length of course varies depending on the provider, training partner, CPR level and instructor. Course length varies from 8 hours to 10 hours not including breaks. This course is usually completed within one day.

Course Outline:

The following is a general course outline for a basic emergency first aid course:

  • Responding to emergencies and assessing the scene and victim for dangers
  • CPR rescues on a adult or child victim.
  • Recognition and treatment of victims of obstructed airways (choking).
  • Treatment of unconscious victims.
  • Treatment of unconscious vomiting and regurgitating victims.
  • Respiratory Emergencies including asthma, anaphylaxis, hyperventilation and aspiration.
  • Circulatory Emergencies including heart attacks, angina, stroke and transient ischemic attacks (T.I.A’s)
  • External Bleeding and deadly wounds including embedded objects and head trauma.
  • Broken bones and fractures.
  • Sprains and Strains.
  • Training in the use of automated external defibrillators (AED’s).
  • Preparing for emergencies.
