Hemorrhoids or piles are painful varicose veins found in the rectum or in the anus and can be caused by chronic constipation and a sedentary lifestyle. Take note that it is also common during pregnancy.
There are two types of hemorrhoids – internal and the external. The internal hemorrhoids are varicose veins which remain inside the anal canal and cause itchiness without any pain but can sometimes bleed. They also protrude out of the anus but will recede back when pressure is applied and there is difficult in cleaning the area at times.
The external hemorrhoids develop when the external pile is prolapsed or falling out of place which gets strangulated and the blood supply is cut off. A blood clot can develop in the protruding pile. The protruding piles remain out of the anus and pushing it inside can cause pain and it can bleed and rupture if constantly pressed.
