There are two kinds of programs: basic and advanced life support.

Basic Life Support has one program for the general public and two for healthcare providers.

  1. Heartsaver CPR with AED and first aid – 4 hours, for the general public
  2. Heartsaver CPR with AED and first aid (C) – 4.5 hours, for HCPs
  3. BLS for HCPs – 4.5 hours; to qualify for this program students need to pass a pre-test (re-certification is 4 hrs.)

Advanced Life Support is directly exclusively towards healthcare providers. The programs focus on how to use a crash cart in a clinical area, primarily bag valve masks, endrotracheal tubes, and medication. A valid BLS for HCPs certification is required for both programs. Practical and written exams are given after training is completed for the students to before certified.

  1. Advanced Cardiac Life Support – 2 days, 16 hours (re-certification 5-6 hours)
  2. Pediatric Advanced Life Support – 2 days, 14 hours (re-certification 6-8 hours)

Credentials and their validity

Certificates are awarded once a students passes all post-tests given after completing their classes. These have a validity of 24 months or two years. Before the expiration of a certificate, students can renew them for an additional 2 years in a re-certification class. The only programs without re-certification are the two Heartsaver programs. If you let your credential pass its expiration date, you will need to retake the entire program to get another valid certificate.
