How genital warts are treated

Genital warts are lesions growing on the genital area of the body which are sexually transmitted infections. Women are more susceptible to this condition than men. Generally, genital warts affect the moist tissues of the genital area and characterized as small-sized cauliflower-shaped growths. Oftentimes, the warts cannot be seen by the eye and usually caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

Among women, the warts can develop on the vulva, walls of the vagina, anal canal, area between the external genital, anus and the cervix. In addition, in men, the warts develop on the shaft or tip of the penis, scrotum and anus. It can also develop in the mouth or throat.

Symptoms of genital warts

  • Itchiness and discomfort in the affected area
  • The warts can multiply and become large-sized clusters

Treatment

  • Take an oatmeal bath to lessen the pain, irritation and itchiness of the area. In a bathtub with warm water, add a teaspoon of oatmeal, mix until oatmeal it dissolves and soak the body in the solution. In addition, another alternative is to prepare a scrub by mixing a tablespoon oatmeal and a few drops of water. Use this scrub to exfoliate the skin, remove dirt and prevent warts.
  • Apply salicylic aid on the warts to make them soft. Generally, soak the wart in water and apply salicylic acid and leave on overnight. Cover the area using a cloth bandage to prevent irritation.
  • Avoid scratching the warts to prevent accidentally opening the warts that can result to the spread of virus that allows more warts to develop.
  • Wash the undergarments using hot water.
  • Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply on the genital warts and leave it overnight. Generally, wash it off the next morning. Repeat this process for 2-3 weeks until the warts full elimination of the warts. Another alternative is applying apple cider vinegar on the warts for 15 minutes or more througout the day.
  • Mix castor oil and peppermint oil and soak a cotton ball on the mixture and place it on the genital wart and cover with a tape. Change the cotton at least 3 times every day as needed.
  • Make a paste by mixing baking soda with a few drops of water. Mix well until it becomes a paste. Apply the paste on the wart every few hours and cover it with gauze or bandage to prevent contaminating the area.
  • Soak a cotton ball in tea tree oil and apply it on the wart, cover it with a bandage and leave it overnight. Repeat this process until the wart is completely eliminated. The healing will depend on the size of the wart and it usually takes weeks to months for the condition to completely heal.
