CPR in San Francisco

San Francisco CPR has the biggest selection of CPR training programs in the city. There is no other provider in the area that has as many classes to offer, or cheaper rates than us. While our classes are very affordable, they are still high quality and taught only by certified instructors. Credentials are available from all mandatory certification classes, as well as the single general public program that has optional certification. Re-certification classes are also available, offered frequently through the week as well.

If you want to enrol for a class, you can use the application form on the homepage or enrol through e-mail, telephone call, or walk-in during regular operating hours in the training center. Certificates expire after two years; students will need to take re-certification classes to re-validate their certificate.

What classes can I sign up for?

One general public program is offered at San Francisco CPR. Heartsaver CPR and AED training runs for 4 hours and does not have a re-certification class. It is an optional certification program where students can opt not to take the skills test to become certified rescuers. The curriculum focuses on basic one-person CPR rescue and includes automated external defibrillation (AED) training. Introduction to cardiovascular diseases is also part of the training.

The mandatory certification version of the general public program is Heartsaver CPR and AED (C) for healthcare providers. It runs slightly longer, at 4.5 hours. The curriculum is basically the same as the Heartsaver CPR and AED program but has a mandatory skills test and written exam. This program does not have a re-certification class as well.

Basic Life Support for HCPs is a healthcare provider program that is 4.5 hours long. It teaches one-person and two-person CPR rescue, as well as AED use and common causes of cardiac arrest (CVDs). A pre-test is given to trainees in order to qualify for this program. There is a mandatory post-test (practical and written) given at the end of the program. Re-certification for this program is 4 hours.

The last two programs are advanced life support training programs: ACLS and PALS. Before application to these two programs, students are required to have a valid BLS for HCP certificate as well as to pass the pre-test. Advanced Cardiac Life Support teaches how to perform CPR in a hospital/clinical setting. The use of a crash cart during a code is the SOP when in a clinical setting. The crash cart contains equipment such as defibrillators, trache sets, bag valve masks, and medications used for addressing cardiac arrest. ACLS is a two-day course, 16 hours total. Re-certification is 5-6 hours.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support covers the same basics for pediatric victims. Pediatric victims are children under the age of 18. CPR is vastly different for infants, toddlers, and younger children. Pharmacology or the use of medication is also different, making it a prime topic discussed in the curriculum.  PALS runs for 14 hours total, over two days as well. An update program runs from 6 hours and 20 minutes to 8 hours and 20 minutes.
