CPR HCP and AED

All of the 4 major CPR providers in Canada offer health care provider CPR, also known as CPR “HCP”. This course is for people that work in the health care industry including doctors, nurses, dentists and even health administrators. Students in health care industry are also required to take this level of CPR. Automated external defibrillator (AED) training is included in this course.

CPR HCP Training Equipment
With the help of trained backup rescuers will learn to use a bag-valve mask when performing CPR when enrolled in CPR level “HCP” courses.

Class Content:

Students enrolled in this class will learn all of the material from CPR “A” and “C” and the following additional material:

  • Two person CPR with a clean transition between rescuers.
  • CPR on victims with possible spinal injuries.
  • CPR with the use of additional advanced equipment such as bag-valve masks.
  • Resuscitation only CPR with pulse checks.
  • CPR with reassessments.

This course is the most advanced level of CPR training offered to the public.

The following CPR providers offer this course:

  • St. John’s Ambulance
  • St Mark James Training
  • Vancouver First Aid Ltd.
  • The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

A number of other providers offer CPR HCP training, however, the previously mentioned CPR providers are the most credible providers.

Certification:

Once students complete the hands-on course they will receive a certificate that meets legislative standards. The certificate comes in either a wallet sized card or 8.5 by 11 “wall mount”. Most providers offer both options but some training partners could charge more for additional certificates. Regardless of provider, the certificates are valid for 3 years and nationally accredited. Candidates may be required to renew certification at a earlier date based on employee or school standards.

Course Length:

The length of a CPR HCP and AED course varies depending on provider. Course length varies from 5 to 7 hours in length. Re-certification courses which are shorter in length are as short as 4 hours.

Course Fee:

Course fee depends on provider, training partner and location. Course fee’s range from as low as 55 dollars and as high as 110 dollars plus tax.

Prerequisites:

Candidates must be at least 12 years of age to attend a CPR HCP and AED course.
